PM vows to look into closure of town's last bank
South Wales Evening Post
|November 13, 2025
PRIME Minister Sir Keir Starmer has said he will look into the circumstances surrounding the planned closure of Lloyds Bank's Pontardawe branch after being called upon to intervene.
MP for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe, David Chadwick, directly addressed the PM at the House of Commons yesterday, asking him to intervene over the planned closure of the last remaining bank in the town, which is set to take place on November 20.
Speaking during Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Chadwick asked Sir Keir to write to Lloyds Bank and demand that they keep the Pontardawe branch open, highlighting that more than 31,000 Lloyds customers across his constituency were being affected by a wave of closures in Brecon, Presteigne, Ystradgynlais and now Pontardawe.
