WHEN Mal Pope takes to the stage at the Swansea Building Society Arena next month, he hopes to finally push a fundraising cause which is close to his heart over the finish line.

- STAFF REPORTER

The talented singer-songwriter and broadcaster has been championing Swansea Bay Health Charity's Cwtsh Clos Appeal for the past 18 months.

The appeal is raising £160,000 to help refurbish five two-bedroom homes, which are used to accommodate families with babies in Singleton Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Now, in a lovely display of altruism, Mal will donate 10% of the profits from his Homecoming gig, on Wednesday, October 8, to the cause.

The evening promises an unforgettable mix of Mal’s best-loved songs alongside brand-new material, including his moving new single Best of Times.

The single carries deep personal meaning, as it was inspired by the short but precious life of his grandson Gulliver, who spent his first few days at Singleton Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Gulliver's story also makes a feature in the official music video.

Mal has been a proud ambassador for the Cwtsh Clos Appeal since the beginning, helping to shine a spotlight on the vital difference these improvements will make.

Now, he has announced that 10% of profits from the Homecoming concert will be donated to the appeal, giving the charity a vital boost towards reaching its final fundraising target.

With £15,000 still to go, Mal hopes his concert can help push the total over the finish line.

Speaking about his decision to support the appeal, Mal said: “Cwtsh Clos has been such an important project for me and my family.

“After everything we went through with little Gulliver, I wanted to find a way to say thank you to the staff who care with such love and compassion every single day.
