It was the major downside of an evening that saw Tom Bowen keep up his remarkable start to the season, with his two tries proving the difference at the Arms Park.

Williams landed awkwardly after claiming a line-out in the first half. He was given gas before being stretchered off after lengthy treatment, with coach Corniel van Zyl confirming he had been taken to hospital.

“I am not 100 per cent sure yet what the diagnosis is but he is off to hospital, so that says a lot,” said van Zyl.

“Teddy has been part of the team and starting most games for the last 12 months and kicked on to play for Wales in Japan, so that speaks for itself.”

Wales head coach Steve Tandy was watching in the stands, with Williams seemingly unlikely to feature in his autumn squad.
