It's that time of year again when the UK is increasingly being battered by storms, floods, snow and other weather-related incidents. I know the impact of weather worries readers, so if you do need to make an insurance claim, here's my guide to all you need to know.

What happens when I make an insurance claim for weather damage?

Insurance companies are relatively quick to begin investigations when there is significant damage as a result of a storm or bad weather. However, if lots of people in your local area are affected, this can have an impact.

Your insurer will initially send out a loss adjuster to assess the damage and the repairs that need to be carried out as a priority.

The loss adjuster will also provide a report laying out the subsequent repairs that will be required at a later stage.

If you disagree with the assessment of the loss adjuster you should complain to the insurance underwriter as soon as possible.
