Eagles set to soar in skies of South Wales?

COULD eagles be returning to the skies above South Wales?

Dr Sophie-Lee Williams will give an insight into plans to restore eagles to the skies of South Wales at a talk in Swansea next week

That's certainly the aim of a group working to bring the white-tailed eagle back to the area. And they are preparing to update Swansea on their efforts as part of a talk next week.

The local branch of the Wildlife Trust of South West Wales (WTSWW) hosts Dr Sophie-Lee Williams at St Hilary’s Church Hall, in Killay, on Tuesday, September 30.

Dr Williams is driving the project to bring white-tailed eagles back to the region.

Janet Hawkins, chair of WTSWW Swansea, said: “Dr Williams hopes that the project will get the go-ahead next year. The eagles will be restored to Gwent initially, but adults fly vast distances, so eagles may again be soaring above and fishing in the scenic bays of South Wales in 2027.

“The last breeding pair of white-tailed eagles were actually at Kenfig, so they have a history in the wider Swansea Bay.”
