Calls for Welsh dragon on new digital ID cards

THE First Minister has said she wants to see a Welsh dragon on compulsory digital ID cards being brought in by the UK Government.

The UK Government last week announced plans for a free digital ID, saying it will help reduce work options for illegal migrants.

The scheme will be available to all UK citizens and legal residents, ending the need for complicated identity checks which often rely on copies of paper records. There has been opposition to the plan.

There will be no requirement for individuals to carry their ID or be asked to produce it - but it will be mandatory as a means of proving aright to work.

In an interview with Politico's Dan Bloom at the Labour Party conference, the First Minister said she wanted to see a dragon on the ID.
