A MAN accused of raping a woman ignored her pleas for him to stop and told her he was “enjoying it’ a court has heard.

- LUCY JOHN

The trial heard how during the alleged attack the woman was said to have asked Paul Hallisey: “Did you know that’s rape?’ to which Hallisey allegedly responded: “Is it?,’ and continued.

Hallisey, of Heol Y Berllan, Caerau, Cardiff, denies raping the woman, and maintains the pair had consensual sex.

Niklas Strobl, prosecuting, told the jury how one night some years ago the defendant tried to initiate sexual intercourse with the woman by touching her.

Mr Strobl told the jury the woman “made it clear’ both “verbally and physically’ that she did not want to engage with him by repeatedly saying: “No, I'm tired)’ and turning away from him.

He told the jury Hallisey, now 33, continued to hassle the woman before he allegedly moved her clothing and inserted his finger inside her.

At this point Mr Strobl said the woman “didn’t know whether she was in a nightmare or awake’,

However, he said the alleged victim was definitely awake when Hallisey’s attack progressed to rape.

Mr Strobl said the woman went on to ask Hallisey whether he knew he was raping her, to which she claimed he replied: “Is it? I was enjoying it”
