Pupils dig in to help build calming sensory garden

Pupils are helping to build a sensory prayer garden to inspire calm, reflection and a love of nature.

St Benedict's Catholic Primary School has received a £500 grant from Mendip and District Round Table 642 to kick-start the transformation of its courtyard into a sensory space designed to stimulate all five senses.

Five raised beds have already been installed and are being filled with flowers and plants chosen to appeal to sight, smell, touch, taste and sound.

The project is being led by the school’s pupil wellbeing champions alongside the chaplaincy team.

A school spokesperson said the initiative is about more than just beautification - it’s part of a wider push to embed wellbeing, inclusivity and environmental stewardship into everyday school life.
