Chili take control of title challenge

Chilcompton Sports took a big step towards the Premier Division title with a 2-0 win at previous leaders Ilminster Town.

Rightly billed as a potential title-decider on Tuesday, Ryan Gay scored both Chili goals to move a point clear with a game to play. It’s another tough one though as they take on third-place Nailsea United on Monday.

Chili had set themselves up with a 3-1 success at Uphill Castle on Saturday.

Timsbury Athletic completed their difficult campaign with an 8-1 mauling at the hands of Wells City Reserves.

At the moment, Timsbury will finish bottom of the division on goal difference unless Bishop Sutton can take anything from their final match.

Westfield suffered a 5-0 defeat at Wrington Redhill in Division One on rather an off day for the Crayons.

Relegated Chew Magna were edged out in a seven-goal thriller at home to Bishops Lydeard Reserves in Division Two. Eighth-place Lydeard are now two points clear of Welton Rovers Reserves with a game to go after Welton pushed leaders Sporting Weston all the way before ultimately losing 2-1.

Bradley Whittock had given Welton the lead from the penalty spot on 24 minutes, before a great save from Joe Beaverstock kept their lead intact at half-time. Weston regrouped though and scored twice in eight minutes to complete the turnaround with 12 minutes still to play.

As well as a first team manager, Welton are also on the look out for a Reserve Team manager. If you are interested in this fantastic opportunity, contact the club via welton-rovers@outlook.com.
