We are not ready for it

Congratulations to coach Nasreddine Nabi, his technical team, the players, supporters, management and everyone associated with the club on the historic 2-1 Nedbank Cup final victory against archrivals, Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

We are not ready for it

This is one of the most important milestones for the club because it had been 10 years since we last won any major trophy and coach Nabi entrenched his name into the history books as he joined a list of coaches who won a trophy in their maiden season in charge of the Glamour Boys. I hope the victory will spur the team on to finishing the season on a high note and ensure that they secure a Top Eight spot.

On the season

Guys, we are only a few weeks away from the end of the season and I don't think we are ready for it. This is because of the interesting and entertaining campaign we've had, and we wish it didn't have to come to an end. It looks like Mamelodi Sundowns will be retaining their league title as they are only one win away from mathematically running away with it. I must say, Orlando Pirates made this league title race a bit more exciting especially after their back-to-back 2-1 wins against Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows. That was a surprise element, and I think the gap is getting closer by the game. Remember, in the past seasons, Sundowns did what Liverpool is doing in the English Premier League this year. They usually win the league with more than five games to spare but that wasn't the case this time around. You also get the feeling that had Pirates not dropped points in recent games, the race could have been more interesting. By the time you read this column, Sundowns will probably have won the league depending on their results from the visit to Chippa United last night (Wednesday).

Will Pirates also suffer similar Downs fate?

Now that Pirates have contributed 9 players to the national team, the same fate that befell Sundowns could visit the Soweto team at the end of the AFCON.

South Americans are very fragile

Last weekend we saw Orlando Pirates make history by becoming the first Carling Knockout champions to beat the All-Stars team, after both Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC failed to do so in the previous two seasons. Pirates were forced to play without several of their regulars as they are in camp in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's charges beat coach Manqoba Mngqithi's team 2-0 to be crowned champions, for the second time in a week. Congratulations to Bucs as they close the year on a high note.
