Once a regular feature in the PSL, Siphelele Luthuli is now navigating one of the toughest phases in a professional footballer's career - free agency.

The 30-year-old midfielder, known for his composure on the ball, tactical awareness, and work ethic, has worn the jerseys of respected clubs such as University of Pretoria, Highlands Park, Bloemfontein Celtic, and most recently, Chippa United. Since parting ways with Chippa at the end of last season, Luthuli has been patiently awaiting his next opportunity, staying fit and mentally prepared for a return to top-flight football. Earlier this year, he trained with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates in a stint that reignited both hope and belief in his abilities. Though a permanent deal didn't materialise, the experience left a lasting impact on the player. From dealing with setbacks to drawing strength from the consistent support of his parents, Luthuli's story is one of perseverance, self-belief, and quiet resilience. In this candid interview with Soccer Laduma's Masebe Qina, Luthuli reflects on his journey so far, the emotional toll of being overlooked, and the lessons he has learned through each twist and turn.

Masebe Qina: Siphelele, thank you for speaking with us. What can you tell us about your football journey and how it all began?

I was prepared for us to suffer

Just days after guiding his side to a Nedbank Cup victory over Orlando Pirates, Casric Stars coach Bucs Mthombeni had to quickly shift his focus back to league matters. His team followed up that historic night at the Orlando Amstel Arena with a hard-fought 1-0 win over The Bees FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, showing that their cup heroics were no fluke. In this interview with Soccer Laduma's Masebe Qina, Mthombeni opens up about the importance of maintaining momentum in the league, the defensive discipline that has become the backbone of his team, and the emotions of eliminating one of the country's biggest clubs.
