Sekhukhune monitoring Maart as contract nears end

Sekhukhune United are believed to be keeping a close eye on the situation of Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart, with his contract at Naturena set to expire at the end of June.

Maart, who will turn 30 in July, has been a regular figure in the Chiefs midfield since joining from Sekhukhune in 2022. While Chiefs insiders have indicated a desire to keep the current club captain, there has been no official confirmation of a new contract being signed.

The player recently left the door open to a possible exit, stating publicly that his future would be decided by what he described as "the Almighty's will." This has done little to dampen speculation surrounding his next move.

Siya sources have confirmed that Sekhukhune, where Maart previously captained the side and made a name for himself, are interested in bringing him back to the club. It's understood that Babina Noko are assessing their midfield options ahead of the new season and see Maart as an experienced figure who could add value both on and off the field.

With Chiefs yet to finalise the midfielder's future, Sekhukhune are reportedly willing to make a move should Maart become available. Whether Chiefs offer a contract extension or allow him to leave remains to be seen, but the interest from his former club is concrete.

The situation is developing, and a decision is likely to be made soon as the season draws to a close.

City want to keep Downs'

Phewa Durban City are already preparing themselves for Betway Premiership football next season, and this means they have identified some players they want to have in their squad.

City need one point on the final day of the season to win automatic promotion to the top-flight. The club brought in Luvuyo Phewa on a loan deal from Mamelodi Sundowns, after the midfielder spent the first half of the season with AmaZulu FC.
