Let's become role models

We live in an era where positive role models can be scarce, which means the next generation feels lost as there are no examples they can relate to in their immediate communities.
-
Back in the day, almost every family and community had people the young ones looked up to, people who were exemplary and gave hope to the youth as they had gone through the same life experiences as those who looked up to them. Even leaders, from community to the state president, used to be role models, however, slowly but surely, these people are fading away in our communities, and we wonder why drug and alcohol abuse is so rife!
With this being a football space, it is worth remembering that there is no football without our communities. The football teams we see reflect the societies we live in, therefore, we can't separate the Beautiful Game from the communities or vice versa, as the two are intertwined. It is on that basis that one feels now, more than ever, is the time for football supporters to stand up and be counted! Let's come together and become role models in our immediate communities. This is not the first time you've heard about this clarion call on this platform, and it is certainly not the last. This is a message we must spread consistently until it becomes second nature to our supporters. That's because we, as football supporters, don't seem to realise the power we have in ourselves. There is so much that we can do together that no one else can even come close to achieving if we remain conscious conscious and pull in the same direction. We can impact and shape our communities so much if we put our minds to it.
