Leaving the club was painful

Knox Mutizwa left Golden Arrows under a dark cloud, which is a pity given the contribution he made at the club. Stories of him being fired by the KZN outfit started circulating towards the end of last season and the rumuours turned to reality when the two parties went their separate ways, albeit in a fashion not befitting their all-time Top Goal Scorer who made close to 300 appearances. It's now in the past and the Zimbabwean striker is looking to make an impact at his new club, Richards Bay FC. In this interview with Soccer Laduma's Tshepang Mailwane at the Carling Knockout launch, the former Bidvest Wits marksman speaks about leaving Arrows, joining The Natal Rich Boys and the regret he has for not joining Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs.

TM: How does that make you feel, because you are what many would consider a club legend?

KM: I was devastated, to be honest. I was sad. I can't put it into words, but I was devastated. So yes, I can say it was disappointing because I stayed at the club for a long time. But, in football, we move on. You can't stay in one place forever, but I would like to thank Arrows for all the years I was there, and I appreciate everything. But leaving the club was painful. Even if it was painful, I still appreciate everything the club did for me. I am sure the fans and everyone at the club appreciate everything I did for them.

TM: Did they give you a reason as to why they let you go?

KM: My brother, I am telling you the truth, they never gave me a reason.

TM: So, according to you, you did everything that a professional player has to do?

KM: On my side, I did everything that a professional player has to do.

TM: What kept you going during that time when there was so much uncertainty surrounding your situation at Arrows?
