In the male-dominated world of football, breaking barriers is no easy feat.

It shows I'm doing something right

Yet, Sibongile Marokana has done just that, carving a name for herself as the chairlady of ABC Motsepe League side Lerumo Lions in the North West. With unwavering determination, she has faced the challenges of football administration head-on, proving that passion and resilience can overcome even the toughest obstacles. In this interview with Soccer Laduma's Masebe Qina, Marokana talks about her journey, the hurdles she has encountered as a woman in football, and her ambitious vision for Lerumo Lions. From battling stereotypes to securing sponsorships and dreaming of top-flight football, her story is one of perseverance and inspiration. Join us as we delve into the mind of a trailblazer who refuses to back down in the face of adversity.

Masebe Qina: Hi Sibongile, thanks for availing yourself to talk to Soccer Laduma readers. What inspired you to enter the male-dominated world of football administration?

Sibongile Marokana: I had already been passionate about football, but as time went by, it got to a point where I decided to give back to the sport. So, it's more of a calling driven by the passion that brought me to where I am right now.

MQ: As a young woman leading a football club, what are some of the biggest challenges you've faced so far?

SM: Umm... not getting the support, especially in our province. I think that's been the biggest issue, especially being a female. Everybody sees you as a threat and feels you don't belong there. People feel like you're invading their territory. Most of the challenges I encounter stem from the fact that I'm a woman, and I don't belong there. Every moment they can, they try to make me feel that I don't belong there, and others use different ways to try and victimise me as a female. Unfortunately for them, they're dealing with a different breed.

MQ: In what way do you usually get victimised and how do you feel when that happens?

South Americans are very fragile

Last weekend we saw Orlando Pirates make history by becoming the first Carling Knockout champions to beat the All-Stars team, after both Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC failed to do so in the previous two seasons. Pirates were forced to play without several of their regulars as they are in camp in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou's charges beat coach Manqoba Mngqithi's team 2-0 to be crowned champions, for the second time in a week. Congratulations to Bucs as they close the year on a high note.
