Thousands of homes given energy efficiency upgrades

More than 10,000 energy efficiency upgrades have been made to homes in South Tyneside by a Government scheme to fight fuel poverty, new figures show.

The Energy Company Obligation was introduced in 2013 to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce carbon emissions and requires energy suppliers to help less well-off households to heat homes, including installing better insulation or upgrading heating systems.

Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) figures show 12,684 ECO measures have been installed in the borough since the scheme launched.

Nationally, nearly 4.3 million measures have been installed.
