'The experience was horrendous' – stranded couple's holiday nightmare

A South Tyneside couple have told how their dream Caribbean holiday turned into a nightmare after a disruptive passenger left them stranded 4,000 miles from home.

Joe-Anne and Steve Lythgoe, from Jarrow, spent over two days in limbo after their return flight made an emergency landing - and then broke down.

They had taken off from the paradise resort of Jamaica's Montego Bay on Sunday, September 14, for an expected nine-hour journey to Manchester.

But they watched in disbelief as the flight was diverted after 25 minutes due to a fellow traveller's apparently drunken antics.

Safety fears forced the crew to land in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas - and their journey was expected to quickly resume.

But they and around 340 other passengers - including six pals - were instead left grounded for over two days due to a technical issue with their plane.
