Council chiefs in South Tyneside are set to consider a range of measures to help thousands of low income residents with their council tax bills.
Council chiefs will consider a range of measures to help thousands of low income residents with their Council Tax bills at a meeting in the Town Hall.
The Council Tax Reduction Scheme currently supports around 11,300 households in the borough and councillors say their aim for the 2026-27 financial year is to “continue supporting those on the lowest incomes and targeting support to make things fairer.”
The proposed scheme maintains the income-banded system which introduced in 2024.
This policy, they say, ensures that those on the lowest incomes can receive up to 90% off their council tax bills - with support tailored to individual household circumstances.
