Licensed to thrill: The Guest will have you on edge of your seat

As the nights start to get darker so does our TV drama.

Autumn is the time for shows that play with your nerves so expect twists and tensions galore before the leaves have even turned brown.

The Guest on BBC One is one of the first primetime dramas of the season and it hopes to have your jaw on the floor.

Ria (Gabrielle Creevey) is a working-class young woman with her world slowly crumbling around her. She's desperate for a job to find some solid ground.

It's in this state that she meets Fran (Eve Myles), a wealthy businesswoman who looks like she has her life put together. The chance encounter will change both their lives, but far from how they expect.

A generous Fran has never-ending gifts to give to Ria. She'll offer Ria a job as a cleaner, give her guidance, endless motivational speeches, and even offer her access to the guesthouse.

Fran is the fairy godmother in designer clothing but of course this is a thriller not a fairy tale.

For the majority of the first episode of The Guest, you know something terrible will happen but you don't know what or when.

It's like riding a rollercoaster blind and feeling the foreboding at the sudden drop that could happen at any time.
