A young charity champion from Jarrow has helped make Christmas special for youngsters in need after stepping in to boost an appeal for presents.
Fourteen-year-old Luke Hedley - who earlier this year earned a British Citizen Youth Award in recognition of his community work - jumped into action after calling in at South Shields Fire Station to drop off toys for an appeal to provide presents for children in local care homes.
