Oh, the Christmas TV schedules were frightful.

Animated Scarecrows' Wedding is outstanding viewing in its field

Thank goodness, I found something quite delightful.Scouring the guides, I hoped for something family members of all ages could sit down to watch and enjoy together. Such a programme was rarer than a snowflake on Christmas Day.

There was a plethora of celebrity Christmas editions of game and reality TV shows. Festive soap episodes also aplenty and full of squabbling, squawking, fighting and feuding.

Amandaland, Mrs Brown's Boys or Call the Midwife ... too crude, rude and graphic for my taste.

The only new programme I could find was The Scarecrows' Wedding - delightful, charming, funny, full of love and happiness.

Adaptations of books by writer Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler have been synonymous with Christmas for children - from one to 101 - for years. The Gruffalo, Zog, Stick Man and last year's Tiddler have all brought warmth and cosy magic to the Yuletide.
