Skipper steers Vine to first win

SCHLEMMER AND HOPE PUT ON IMPRESSIVE BATTING PERFORMANCE

CAPTAIN Luke Schlemmer and Bradley Hope scored a century each as Sevenoaks Vine beat Broadstairs by 135 runs in the Kent League Championship on Saturday.
Losing the toss the home side were asked to bat first.
Up top an early mix up between Evert Bekker and Nick Compton saw the departure of Bekker.
Compton then added 22 to the board before being bowled by Jake Benfield of Broadstairs.
This brought together captain Schlemmer and overseas first class cricketer Hope. The two began to build a partnership which saw an exhibition of stroke play and power hitting. The pair batted together till the 42nd over with a partnership of 281 runs. Schlemmer the first to depart for a well played 140 runs. Hope continued his excellent innings batting through to the 50th over with an excellent 160 not out. Sevenoaks Vine setting there visitors 367 to win.
