Mum spearheads demands for less gruelling children cancer treatment

A MUM whose son was treated for leukaemia when he was two years old is determined to help push for more effective and less gruelling treatments for children with cancer.

Kate Willis's son Sebby, now 10, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in 2017, after being unwell with viruses and sick bugs and later symptoms including nose bleeds, night sweats and spots behind the knee and under the arms.

He then underwent more than three years of treatment, including chemotherapy, steroids and lumbar punctures, spending many days and nights in hospital in the process.

Having seen the impact of treatment on children and their families, Kate, from Ightham, was determined to help others facing a diagnosis in the future and joined CCLG: The Children & Young People's Cancer Association's Patient and Public Involvement Group in 2020 to have a say in the future direction of its research activities.
