COUNCILLORS TO DECIDE ON PROJECT DESPITE OPPOSITION
-
PLANS for a new £3.6million cycle and footpath which has been in the pipeline for more than a decade should be progressed, councillors will be told.
That is despite being given the thumbs down by a majority of respondents to a consultation.
A council report says it is normal for those opposed to such developments to speak louder than those who are neutral or in support.
The Otford to Sevenoaks walking, wheeling and cycling route would link Otford village centre to Bat and Ball junction, “allowing residents to travel by a safe, attractive and sustainable means as an alternative to using their cars for short journeys”, a report to the Sevenoaks Joint Transportation Board - a committee made up of both county and district councillors - says.
“Delivering this walking, wheeling and cycling route has been a long-term cross-political ambition since 2012 for Sevenoaks District Council”, it says.
