Woman and children terrified as burglar forced way into home
Scunthorpe Telegraph
|July 03, 2025
A VIOLENT burglar left a woman and her three young children terrified after suddenly forcing his way into their home, punching her to the floor and stealing more than £160 cash during a nasty “revenge attack”.
Crack cocaine addict Andrew Mitchell angrily accused the woman of being a “grass” and he made threats to her during the furious confrontation.
She no longer felt safe in her home and she was devastated that her children had to witness the violent scenes, a court heard.
Mitchell, 30, of no fixed address, but recently in custody on remand, admitted an offence of burglary on April 9.
Harry Bradford, prosecuting, told Hull Crown Court that the woman lived with her three children in a flat in Scunthorpe.
She returned home between 1 and 1.30pm and spoke to her children. She heard the sound of glass smashing at a kitchen window.
Mitchell put his arm inside and tried to open the window by using the handle but he was unable to get in because of a safety feature. He shouted “F*** this” and she saw him walk past a wall towards a communal door.
