POIGNANT MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR TRANSATLANTIC COUPLE WHO MET DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR
A POIGNANT memorial service was held over the weekend to pay tribute to a transatlantic couple who were married for 70 years after meeting during the Second World War at the very same church they were married at in 1945.
Last Sunday, the couple's daughter Terrilyn Klucar hosted the one-of-a-kind service at St Mary's Church in West Butterwick near Scunthorpe, after travelling to the UK from her home in the United States with her husband Gerry.
The service was attended by members of Terrilyn's family who live locally, and included fascinating speeches about the couple’s life, and how they met during the war when Lester Moyer a soldier from the US - was stationed at the former RAF base in Kirton Lindsey, and Joan Smithson lived nearby in West Butterwick.
