CONTROVERSIAL plans for a hotel in Scunthorpe have been withdrawn.

- By IVAN MORRIS POXTON

An 18-bed hotel was proposed in Manby Road, part of the Riddings Estate in Brumby Ward. The property proposed for conversion used to be a home for vulnerable people.

This closed three years ago and it has been empty since. The hotel proposal, which involved en-suites but no kitchen facilities, drew a strong negative reaction from local residents, with clientele, parking and traffic, and the hotel's location all featuring in objections.

It was withdrawn this week by the applicant. Read on below for more about the objections to the withdrawn hotel, six homes in New Holland and other latest planning developments in North Lincolnshire Council area.

HOTEL WITHDRAWAL

The proposed hotel would have provided short-term accommodation to visitors and workers, according to a planning document. This also asserted, “the development will have no impact on the neighbouring properties.”

Plenty did not share this view. Before its withdrawal, there were 174 comments on the application, overwhelmingly opposed.
