Young dad plunged to death in rig crane horror
Scottish Daily Express
|January 30, 2026
A NORTH Sea worker fell to his death through the floor of a crane cab because a section of grating had been removed, it has been revealed.
Lee Hulse died a week after celebrating his 32nd birthday. His death was the second on the rig in under three years.
The young father was working on the Valaris 121 jackup drilling rig when he was killed last November - 140 miles off Aberdeen in Shell’s Shearwater field.
The Health and Safety Executive found the grating had been removed during cleaning, exposing the “fragile surface”.
