MINISTERS were yesterday warned they have just weeks to save thousands of jobs in the car industry as manufacturers issued a plea for a Covid-style package of support.
MINISTERS were yesterday warned they have just weeks to save thousands of jobs in the car industry as manufacturers issued a plea for a Covid-style package of support.
Vehicle makers said a deal scrapping Donald Trumps tariffs was needed but if this was not possible, the Government should consider a furlough scheme to stop skilled workers leaving the industry.
They also called for tax breaks for struggling businesses.
The warning came from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, which represents companies employing 813,000 people across the UK.
