War survivor, 88, sees beloved doll restored to former glory

THE precious doll that Ruth Hayter held tight as she was smuggled out of wartime Austria has a starring role in tonight's VE Day Special of The Repair Shop.
Ruth, 88, tells an extraordinary story of resilience and survival as her little companion Haisi is restored to her former glory on the BBC show.
Smuggled into the UK as a two-year-old, Ruth hugged Haisi for comfort on her life-saving journey in 1939. She said: "Haisi really is part of me. She's been through life with me."
