Angela Constance faces calls to resign

PRESSURE is building on Justice Secretary Angela Constance after the independent advisers to the ministerial code were asked to probe her conduct.

John Swinney has been accused of “closing ranks" around one of his closest allies as he has repeatedly insisted that he is "satisfied" with her behaviour despite a row over her ‘misleading parliament’.

The First Minister has the power to sanction a probe but is refusing to do so, even to clear the Justice Secretary's name. She can also self-refer to one but has shown no indication of taking that step.

The Scottish Tories have written to the three advisers to ask if they will look at the conduct of Ms Constance over her handling of calls for a child grooming scandal and accusations of misrepresenting the views of expert Professor Alexis Jay.
