The longest disruptive severe weather for years

SEVERE weather warnings for Scotland have now been in place for more than 14 days in a row.

Snow joke... the winter weather has caused a lot of disruption across the country

This is one of the longest continuous periods of disruptive weather in recent years. The first yellow alert for snow and ice was issued on Monday, December 29 and fresh ones have been delivered by the Met Office in every day since.

During the worst of the weather, several amber warnings were issued due to the severity of conditions.

Today, the latest yellow alert raises the prospect of dangerous icy spells overnight and into this morning.

Flooding has brought disruption in some parts of Scotland, with flood warnings in place in many areas due to heavy rain and melting snow.
