'The fashion world has lost a giant' ...tributes to legend Armani

The Italian catwalk king, one of the most influential and famous designers of the modern era, died at his home in Milan aged 91.

Credited with inventing red carpet fashion, he dressed stars including Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Cate Blanchett and Lady Gaga.

He was also revered for his business acumen, turning the company he started in the 1970s with less than £10,000 into an empire netting more than £2billion a year.

Fellow Italian designer Donatella Versace, 70, said: “The world has lost a giant today. He made history and will be remembered for ever.”

Actress Julia, 57, who wore Armani menswear to the Golden Globes in 1990, posted “A true friend. A Legend”, with a heartbreak emoji.

Gladiator star Russell Crowe, 61, said: “So many significant moments in my life, awards, wedding, Wimbledon... all in Armani.
