FIRST MINISTER John Swinney has been told to get on with the day job as he bids to put independence back on top of the political agenda.

- BY ROSS THOMSON

Shameless Swinney will use a speech in Glasgow later today to claim Scexit would reduce household's electricity bills by a third.

The First Minister will declare "It's Scotland's energy" harking back to his party's 1970s slogan "It's Scotland's oil" as he sets out a paper on how the country could benefit from taking full control over its natural resources.

Destroyer

But despite opposition parties pleading with the SNP Government to sort out the many problems Scotland is facing, Mr Swinney is expected to say: "Westminster control of Scotland's resources does not work for us. We see that in their complete failure to support key industries in Scotland.

"That is why, when I met the Prime Minister on Friday, I made clear the existential nature of the current threat. I left him in no doubt that, unless he changes course, we face a second wave of 80s-style deindustrialisation, 80s-style economic devastation.
