The Local Government department caved in to legal action from Reform UK over the decision to delay votes in 30 council areas.

It gives Reform a chance to deal Labour a huge blow at the polls.

Mr Farage said his party had “defeated” a government bid to “cancel democracy”. He added the U-turn — Labour’s 14th since winning power — was a “resignation matter” for Local Government Secretary Steve Reed.
