GERS DEFENDER ADMITS PLAYERS ARE CULPABLE

- By Scott McDermott

JOHN SOUTTAR insists he and his Rangers teammates deserve to get it in the neck from furious fans just as much as beleaguered boss Russell Martin.

The Light Blues’ wretched start to the season under their new manager plumbed new depths with Tuesday’s 3-1 Champions League playoff defeat to Club Brugge at Ibrox, which has left them with a mountain to climb in the second leg to reach the group phase.

Some disgruntled home punters left the ground before halftime, having seen enough after the Belgians raced into a 3-0 lead inside 20 minutes as they capitalised on a series of calamitous defensive howlers.

Rangers were roundly booed off at full-time, with Martin getting the brunt of the supporters’ ire.

Many are already calling for the ex-Scotland international to be sacked, with the team’s Premiership fortunes already ailing after Gers drew their opening two league games against Motherwell and Dundee.

However, Souttar is adamant it’s a collective responsibility that isn’t just on Martin.

The defender said: “It’s unfair for him to take the flak. We all have to take it, not just the manager. We are all due it.
