Scottish Greens left red-faced at failed Rosebank motion

THE Scottish Greens were left humiliated last night after calls for the Scottish Parliament to oppose the Rosebank oil field were roundly rejected by MSPs.

The hard-left party led by Ross Greer and Gillian Mackay had hoped to shame the SNP into backing its motion to oppose the scheme in the North Sea.

But instead the Nats’ amendment was approved, despite opponents branding it a “load of spin and obfuscation”.

John Swinney’s position on drilling for more oil and gas is unclear, although he has stepped back from Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf’s policies of outright rejection of new developments.

The Scottish Tories were the only party to back the investment in Rosebank, with Net Zero spokesman Douglas Lumsden labelling its left-wing opponents as “champagne socialists”.
