Quiet please! Neighbours want 'noisy library' brought to book
Scottish Daily Express
|September 30, 2025
A LIBRARY has upset its neighbours with “quite the racket” coming from it.
Local businesses say the droning produced by the building in Taunton, Somerset, forces them to shut windows and doors, meaning they lose passing trade.
The din is caused by a new boiler fitted last year. The noise cannot be heard inside the library but council checks have confirmed it is disruptive to shops, offices and residents.
Pete Robertson, 47, owner of Zero Waste Shopping, complained last winter, when the authority acknowledged the problem, and is dreading the coming months.
