Pressure mounts on PM over Mandelson

Kemi Badenoch’s party is understood to have spent yesterday in talks with Commons officials to “make sure that we get answers” this week, using any parliamentary procedures available.

Afterwards they sent a letter to Sir Keir Starmer demanding urgent answers over what Downing Street knew, and when, as his future as PM hung in the balance just two days before Donald Trump’s state visit.

He is said to have not seen the full extent of Mandelson’s emails to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein until Wednesday night. He sacked him the next day.

But Shadow Education Secretary Laura Trott said yesterday: “We know that Bloomberg [news agency] put these allegations to the Foreign Office on Tuesday. I’ve been in No 10 - there is no way that is not then reported into No 10.

“This is what we're going to be pushing for next week. And, if you’re a Labour MP, you should be pushing for it too, because we will use every mechanism that is available to us to force the truth to come out. We need these documents. How have we ended up in a situation where the advice for the Prime Minister is to appoint the best pal of a convicted paedophile to be US ambassador?”
