PINE martens have returned to Exmoor National Park for the first time in 100 years after their once-thriving population there was lost to hunting and the decline of their woodland habitats.

The pioneering nature project has reintroduced 19 of the rare creatures in secret locations owned by the National Trust and Exmoor National Park Authority.

Nine female and 10 male animals were released there last month, having been sourced from healthy wild populations in the Highlands of Scotland.
