PERIOD-TRACKING APPS IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Experts have warned women using period-tracker apps of a “frightening” risk to privacy and safety. Academics from Cambridge University said personal information could even be "sold at scale".

A new report from experts at Cambridge's Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy said this “poses risks and harms for users”.

Researchers said menstrual data can provide insights into people's health and reproductive choices. They added that these apps can also collect information on exercise, diet, medication, sexual preferences, hormone levels and contraception use, and this information is a “goldmine” for consumer profiling.
