Jack: Gers lack right character
RYAN JACK believes Rangers missed the most important check during their summer signing spree - character.
Last Saturday's Premier Sports Cup quarterfinal win over Hibs is unlikely to ease the pressure on manager Russell Martin after a disastrous start to the season.
Thirteen players have been recruited on his watch - and that of sporting director Kevin Thelwell - and most have failed to show they can cut it at Ibrox.
Midfielder Jack is adamant that you need more than just talent to survive at his old club.
And right now, with Gers 11th in the Premiership and out of the Champions League, he fears some of the new boys lack the minerals required to turn things around.
The 33-year-old, part of the club's last title triumph in 2021, said: "When you recruit a player for Rangers, it can't be done just purely on ability.
"It's not about how good you look for another team.
"You need to recruit on mentality, character, how they train. It's about how they'll cope with a huge fan base and the demands.
"There's so much pressure. So you need to make sure you're recruiting the right people for when you have a sticky spell.
"It has to be players capable of recovering from dropped points and making sure the next game is a win - and the game after that as well.
