National librarian in 'cowardice' book row

SCOTLAND’S national librarian has been accused of “cowardice” after deciding not to display a book of gender critical essays following complaints from LGBT staff.

The Women Who Wouldn't Wheesht was chosen by public votes to be publicly displayed at the National Library of Scotland to mark its centenary.

The book received four nominations which should have seen it put on show as part of the venue’s Dear Library Exhibition. Its content opposes Nicola Sturgeon’s gender self-ID plan and has contributions from author JK Rowling and Alba Party MSP Ash Regan.

But it was snubbed after complaints were made by the library staff's LGBT network who claimed that it had “significant risks to the library’s relationships with authors and other stakeholders”.
