HAVE you been watching the BBC’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show coverage? Tomorrow's TV highlights will include tips on bee-friendly plants and getting closer to nature in small spaces, which shows how gardening is becoming evermore informal.

Nothing illustrates that better than No Mow May, introduced by the charity Plantlife in 1989. The idea is to protect wild plants that provide food for pollinators during the month they’re likely to hatch or come out of hibernation. But a more long-term solution is to leave a swathe of grass permanently unmown and retain most of your lawn for yourself.
