Kidnap and terror risk to royal

Meghan warned it would be 'too dangerous' to fly to Philippines to see her father

Meghan and Thomas Markle before their 2018 split

THE Duchess of Sussex has been told it would be “too dangerous” for her to fly to her stricken father's side in the Philippines.

Aides have warned Meghan that only a major security operation costing millions could guarantee her safety in the strife-torn southeast Asian country.

And a US State Department advisory issued this year — and still in effect — flagged up heightened risks of “crime, terrorism, civil unrest and kidnapping”.

Meghan’s spokesman said the Duchess has managed to have a letter hand-delivered “through reliable and trusted contacts” to her estranged father Thomas Markle, 81, at a hospital in Cebu city. He is recovering there after a three-hour lifesaving operation to amputate his foot and lower leg.
