Mahmood to 'ramp up' deportations as first '1 in, 1 out' deal migrants reach the UK

THE first legal migrants from France under the Government's "one in, one out" deal have arrived in the UK.

A family of three, including a small child, came on a commercial plane following security vetting.

The Home Office has deported four people – an Indian, an Iranian, an Afghan and an Eritrean – to France. But Britain must accept an equal number of legal arrivals.

A Government spokesman said: "These are critical first steps. This is a clear message to people-smuggling gangs that illegal entry into the UK will not be tolerated."
