Magic WAND for cashew and carry
Scottish Daily Express
|March 11, 2026
Global supply chain strength and lower costs from slashing food miles - cashew nut importer Temi Garrick is delivering on his tall order that now needs UK retailers and investors' backing.
-
His startup's name says it all: West African Nuts Direct (WAND). A radical solution, it profoundly challenges the traditional supply route that steers the majority of nuts on a 20,000-mile detour to south east Asia for processing before sending them back to the UK.
"With an extra three months of travel between harvest and retail this means less fresh nuts, reduced economic growth and fewer jobs in producer countries," declares Garrick.
"It's a system that's outdated and inefficient: bad for Africa, the nuts and the planet's carbon emissions. Of course distributors and retailers must have supply consistency and that's what we are addressing.
