MP said no to inheritance tax on farmers

A LABOUR MP has had the party whip suspended after rebelling against the Government in the Budget vote.

Markus Campbell-Savours, MP for Penrith and Solway since July last year, was the only backbencher from the ruling party who voted against a budget motion on inheritance tax for farmers on Tuesday night.

The National Farmers Union had urged Labour MPs to abstain.

But MPs voted 327 to 182, a majority of 145, in support of the UK Government's plans to slap inheritance tax on farms worth over £1 million.
