It just could not go on after fans' revolt

THE Rangers team bus needed police to get out of the car park, while Russell Martin had to be escorted out of a Falkirk stadium side door to avoid a baying mob.

- BY SCOTT MCDERMOTT

It was pretty clear this could no longer go on. And yesterday was enough to change the minds of the Ibrox board.

After all, they've allowed it to fester this long. Falkirk was a pivotal moment for Martin, his staff and the Rangers players.

Not just because police with batons had to stop punters from holding a sit-down protest in front of the Rangers bus as it tried to exit. Or that Martin had to be escorted out of a stadium side door to avoid a baying mob following the 1-1 draw.

No, it is the fact Rangers are almost certainly out of the Premiership title race.

After just one league win, they're nine points behind Celtic and 11 adrift of leaders Hearts.

At times yesterday Martin's side was outplayed and outfought by John McGlynn's newly-promoted Bairns - and the home side probably deserved a victory.

As for Rangers, after going 1-0 up through Bojan Miovski, they had just one more shot on target - a weak effort from £10million striker Youssef Chermiti.
