Iron Age swords reveal site of ancient settlement

A ROOKIE detectorist's rare find of two iron swords has led to the uncovering of a Roman settlement.
Glenn Manning was taking part in a detecting rally near the Cotswold village of Willersey two years ago when he unearthed the cavalry weapons. He said: “The morning before the rally, I had a feeling I would find something special.
“This was only my second time metal detecting. I'm excited to find out more about them.”
Historic England then conducted surveys of the area, which revealed the possibility of extensive prehistoric and Romano-British remains.
Excavations earlier this year found evidence of settlements spanning several centuries.
